Clearly, the New World talked about human inventiveness back in the 80s and 90s, but this got bulldozed by millennia of European production; their way of seeing things proved too fragile and new to resist; everything was swept away, and now many AUS/NZ producers talk in the same bewitched way. Again, not necessarily a problem…except that terroir is also hierarchal, and as I tweeted once: In the game of territories, France already has hotels on Mayfair and Park Lane. Maybe if you occupy French terms, you’re also dragged into the hegemonic structure of their classification…. an that’s a marketing problem!
